ANCHORED
Can you envision a massive ship docked at a harbor? How about a fishing boat out on a lake? What keeps vessels secure and stable in their coordinates is not what can readily be seen. Upon closer examination, you will find more than likely that, they are anchored. To be anchored is to be secured in position, to be provided with a firm foundation. The purpose of a nautical or maritime anchor is to secure a boat to the bed of a body of water, to keep it from drifting when wind or currents arise. Anchors are essential for stability and safety, maintaining positioning or forward progress.
The imagery of an anchor can be applied to our lives. It conveys the idea of being firmly grounded in something or someone as the source of our support and strength. We all have anchors we tend to rely on to help us feel steady and secure, to help us not drift off our intended course. Some chosen modern-day anchors include success, relationships, family, finances, status, or even ourselves. On the surface, such anchors look appealing and prized and can even seem effective at times. However, there is a high propensity for these fragile anchors to fail us, especially in the face of life's uncertainties and challenges. The loss or shift of an anchor can potentially lead to fear, instability, insecurity, loneliness, drifting, and even wreckage. Do you identify with having an anchor in your life or are you feeling untethered?
HORIZONS
The horizon is a boundary line where the sky and the earth's surface appear to meet. It is a boundary between what is known and unknown. The word horizon can represent the future, dreams and unknown charted territories awaiting to be explored. It can symbolize the limitless potential for growth and beauty.
Amidst our current struggles, pain and circumstances, the horizon imagery can remind us that there is always more than what we can see, know or fully experience in the moment. Sunsets and sunrises are showcased on the horizon and provide natural, beautiful, cyclical reminders that with each ending there is hope and anticipation for a new beginning.
Having the knowledge and understanding of these two words, the name "Anchored Horizons" was created. It is a business built and firmly grounded on the promises, love and hope of Jesus Christ. This business was established as a means to extend compassion, service and hope to the afflicted, lonely, and hurting.
Jesus has been my personal anchor, shelter and hope in and through the plethora of losses, life transitions and challenges in my own life. Grief and loss are unfortunately inevitable. No one escapes this universal human experience. At times, however, the grief process can become very difficult, complex, overwhelming, isolating, and even heartbreaking. We were not designed to be alone on such a journey.
